The Taber Times website was the last website I created while employed at TriCube Media. It was designed and developed by myself and Jace Forsyth. At the time of release the website featured a customized, structured design and was developed using WordPress. In addition, it was the first website I developed from a mobile-first standpoint.
The theme was created with the need to use it for 8 different Alberta Newspaper Group websites across the Canadian prairies. A parent theme was created for this purpose, which boasts a handful of customized functions such as a navigation system, thematically controlled social networking icons and links, and a gallery with lightbox functionality. Further, a custom weather module was created that automatically pulls the weather from Environment Canada. The weather module automatically associates the state of the weather with an icon representing the state of the weather. An example of the weather module can be seen here.
After the framework of the parent theme was established, a child theme was created to control secondary elements such as colours and logos for each website. Apart from The Taber Times, the theme was applied to the following websites:
